VIF-RIAC Discussion on Post Covid Global and Regional Trends and India-Russia Relations

The VIF, in collaboration with the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) organised a virtual discussion on "Post Covid Global and Regional Trends and India-Russia Relations on 23 June. The participants in the discussion included Dr. Arvind Gupta, Andrey Kortunov, Nikolay Kudashev, DB Venkatesh Varma, Amb. Kanwal Sibal, Victoria Panova, Andrey Volodin, Amb. Anil Wadhwa, P.S. Raghavan, Gleb Ivashentsov and Lt. Gen Ravi K Sawhney.

VIF- Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) Conference, Moscow

The theme of the conference was ‘Global Strategy and Foreign Policy Priorities in India-Russia Relations’, wherein various positives and road blocks in bilateral and multilateral were discussed. The discussion also focused on US, China, South Asia and Pakistan, besides the multi-lateral organisations, like the UN, SCO and BRICS.

Interaction with Maxim Shepovalenko, Russian Navy

The VIF invited Capt Maxim Shepovalenko (Retd), Russian Navy, for an interaction on India-Russia relations with emphasis on maritime cooperation. Lt Gen Ravi Sawhney, Dean, Centre for Defence Studies, headed the VIF panel which comprised of Amb D P Srivastava, Brig Vinod Anand and Cmde Gopal Suri, among others. Understandably, defence-industrial cooperation between India and Russia, which has experienced some drag in the recent years, topped the agenda for discussion.

India-Russia 70: VIF-RIAC Bilateral Dialogue and the Way Forward

With India and Russia barely two weeks away from celebrating their 70 years of bilateral ties, the Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF), in collaboration with Moscow-based think tank Russian International affairs Council (RIAC), held a joint seminar on ‘India-Russia Relations and the Way Forward’ on 30 & 31 March 2017. One of the key objectives of the joint exercise was to seek potentials for broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Among others, the seminar focused on identifying and plugging differences in perceptions on certain key issues.

Discussion on ‘Russia In The 21st Century: Where From, Where To'

The VIF organised an internal discussion the topic being, ‘Russia in the 21st Century: where from, where to’, on 23 Sep 2016. The discussion was conducted by Amb PS Raghavan and moderated by Amb PP Shukla, both India’s former Ambassadors to Russia. While the focus was Russia’s foreign policy strategy under President Putin, especially its relations with major world powers including Europe, America and China, among others, the interaction also substantially delved into the perceived drift taking place in Russia-India relations over the last few years.

Interaction with Amb PS Raghavan, India’s Former Ambassador to Russia

The VIF, on March 9, 2016, invited Amb PS Raghavan, who last served as India’s Ambassador to Russia till his retirement in January this year, for a discussion on ‘India-Russia relations: opportunities and challenges’, attended, among others, by top functionaries from the military fraternity and senior diplomats, including two earlier Ambassadors to Russia--former Foreign Secretary Amb Kanwal Sibal and Amb PP Shukla.

Round Table Discussion on India - Russia Relations

The VIF hosted a focused Round Table discussion on India- Russia Relations- the way Forward on August 27, 2015 to look at ways to reenergize India’s relations with Russia at a time when Russia is isolated internationally and is drawing increasingly into China’s fold. The need for such a discussion was felt as Indo-Russian relations have traditionally been marked by genuine warmth and trust resulting in close economic and security cooperation between the two countries since India’s independence.

Interaction with H.E. Alexander Kadakin, Russia’s Ambassador to India

Russia's Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin was invited to VIF on 14 Oct, 2014 for an interaction with a select group of strategic experts to discuss the ‘Indo-Russian Relations and the Way Forward’. The interaction assumes significance in the backdrop of the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India later this year for the annual summit.
