Visit of Czech Senate President to Taiwan
The visit of the Czech Senate president to Taiwan has drawn sharp comments from China. Mr. Milos Vystrcil in his address to the Taiwanese Parliament on 1st September declared ‘I am a Taiwanese’. The expression of empathy with the Taiwanese people was evocative of President John F. Kennedy’s visit to Germany at the height of the Cold War when Kennedy declared Ich bin ein Berliner (I am a Berliner). The Chinese Foreign Minister Mr. Wang Yi had threatened Mr.
A Perspective on the Senkaku Islands Dispute
The dispute over the Senkaku/ Diaoyu Islands comprising five uninhabited islands and three rocks totalling seven square kilometres in the East China Sea is often understated as a simple sovereignty dispute or a resource conflict. It may, in fact, be the defining element of East Asian maritime security and geopolitics. In addition to China and Japan (and Taiwan), the involvement of the United States in this dispute by virtue of its security treaty with Japan makes it potentially explosive.
Cooperation on New Technologies, will India choose BRICS or D10?

US Presidential Elections
The Republican and Democratic Conventions reflect the differing party philosophies and the contrasting personalities of the two candidates. President Trump emphasized national security, law and order, and low taxes. Biden called for social justice, racial equality, and medicare. Trump hit out at China. Candidate Biden made only a passing reference to that country. Trump’s speech was crafted to appeal to his core constituency. Biden was trying to move to the middle ground, a traditional stance of Presidential candidates after winning the nomination to attract the swing voters.
