Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy 2020: Effective Implementation is the Key
Following closely on the heels of Draft Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020, which was open for comments till 10 Aug 2020, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has formulated another document called Defence Production and Export Promotion Policy 2020, in short referred to as DPEPP 20201. The two are differentiated in the sense that while the DAP is centered towards ‘acquisition’ the thrust of DPEPP 2020 is ‘production’ and ‘export’.
China’s Militarisation of South China Sea
In September 2015 from the lawns of the White House, Xi Jinping announced that China would not militarise the South China Sea. Five years down the line, the picture is a complete contrast. As on today, China has effectively completed militarising the Spratly and Paracel island groups.
Doha Talks: a Long Road Ahead
The al-Qaeda led-terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, impelled America to wage ‘global war on terror’. Consequently, the United States toppled the Taliban regime (1996-2001) in Afghanistan for giving sanctuary to the terrorist group, al-Qaeda. On September 12, 2020, the world has come to a full circle as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan kicked off negotiations with the Taliban in Doha to end the ongoing conflict in the country. If the talks succeed, the power structure in Kabul will include the Taliban.
Iran Revisited: Analysing India-Iran Relations
A friend in need is a friend indeed. Only recently President Rouhani took a dig at their so called strategic partners and friends who failed to stand up to the bullying by the USA even during the pandemic that had affected Iran probably worst in the region. A country under severe sanctions hoped for a better understanding and empathy in the hope that the long haul on principles and predilections could legitimately see a hiatus when humanity was at stake.
Distrust More, Verify More: India-China Relations Post Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
China, through his reckless aggression in Ladakh has seriously jeopardised peace and tranquility on the India-Tibet border. China is already in occupation of large parts of Indian territory in Ladakh. To seek to consolidate its hold on this occupied territory by encroaching further into Indian land makes little sense if China wants to avoid a direct military conflict with India.
